The official currency of Bhutan and Foreign Exchange rate

The official currency of Bhutan is the Ngultrum (BTN), which is pegged to the Indian Rupee (INR) at par (1 BTN = 1 INR). Indian Rupees are widely accepted throughout Bhutan, except for the ₹500 and ₹2,000 notes, which may not be accepted in some places due to regulatory restrictions. Foreign currencies such as US Dollars, Euros, and Pounds can be exchanged at major banks, the airport, and authorized exchange counters in cities like Thimphu and Paro. Credit cards (Visa and MasterCard) are accepted at some hotels and shops in urban areas, but cash is recommended for rural travel and smaller purchases. ATMs are available in major towns, although international withdrawals may not always be reliable, so it is advisable to carry sufficient local currency or USD for your trip.
