Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Paro International Airport and sightseeing of Paro valley (2,250m/7,382ft)

As we approach Bhutan, we begin enjoying amazing views of the Himalayas including the religious Jumolhari and JichuDarke Peaks. At the airport, you will meet the representative from Dream Bhutan who drive you to the hotel. Today we will explore RingpungDzong which was built in 166 and now houses the district Monastic Body and Government administrative offices of Paro Dzongkhang. We also proceed to explore the Kuchu Lhakhang, one of the oldest temple of Kingdom. We also visit DrygyalDzong built in 1646 which was built to commemorate Bhutan’s victory over Tibetan invaders during 1600s.

Day 02: Paro – Thimpu (2,320m/7,610ft) – 54km, hike to Taksang Monastery

After breakfast, we drive to the hiking point of Taktsang Monastery. We then hike to the Monastery which takes around 3 – 4 hours of round trip. The monastery is located on a sheer rock face rising about 900m from Paro valley floor. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche have flown on the back of tigress to meditate in a cave where the monastery is located. We take a lunch at Cafeteria Restaurant, located about halfway up the mountain. After exploration, we climb down to valley floor and drive to Thimpu.

Day 03: Thimpu – Punakha (1,250m/4,100ft) – 76 km, 2 – 3 hours

After breakfast, we enjoy the scenic drive from Thimpu to Punakha with a stop for tea at Dochu La Pass (3,100m). On the clear day, we get the stunning views of the Himalayas. From pass, we drive downhill through the forest rhododendron, fir and hemlock and then pass through rick fields along the river banks to reach Punakha. After lunch, we visit Punakha Dzong which was built in between 1637 – 1638, the second oldest and the second largest Dzong in Bhutan.

Day 04: Punakha – Thimpu (2,320m/7,610ft) – 76km/2 – 3 hours

After breakfast, we drive back to Thimpu via same route we used previously. At Thimpu, we explore the major cultural heritage sites that portrays the arts and crafts and allows you to the deep insight of Bhutanese culture. We will explore the TashichhoeDzong (the beautiful medieval monastery hosting most of the government offices and King’s throne room), National Memorial Chorten (the chorten built in the memory of Third King, the father of modern Bhutan), traditional School of arts and crafts, Zilukha Nunnery, Takin Sanctuary (to witness national animal), Indigenous Hospital and TasichoDzong. These historic sites offers lush Bhutanese architecture, crafts and skills.

Day 05: Thimpu – Paro International Airport – Kathmandu

After early morning breakfast, our airport representative will drive to Paro International Airport for your departure to Kathmandu. It takes about an hour of flight to Kathmandu. At Kathmandu International Airport, our airport representative will meet you and transfer you to the hotel. After hotel check-in and short refreshment, we proceed to visit three major UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Kathmandu Durbar Square protect is an ancient palace which displays Nepal kingdom’s history. Likewise, Pashupatinath temple is one of the most significant sacred sites for Hindus all over the world. The Buddhist shrine of Boudhanath is the largest Tibetan stupa in Nepal. If time allows, we also visit the 2,000 years old monkey temple of Swayambhunath.

Day 06: Drive from Kathmandu – Chitwan – 150km/ 5 – 6 hours

After breakfast, we drive to Chitwan National Park located at the foot of the Churia range. It is the first national park of Nepal which is protected by UNESCO world natural site. In Chitwan National Park, we either take a jungle safari or enjoy nature walks depending on the time of arrival. During the safari, we walk deep into the jungle and take a close glimpse of wildlife – deer, rare one-horned rhinoceros and if lucky magnificent Royal Bengal Tiger. We also spend time exploring variety of flora and fauna and enjoy birdwatching. In the evening, we attend the cultural performance of ethnic Tharu Tribe and taste local cuisine.

Day 07: Chitwan National Park

Today we spend full day in Jungle activities. First we will be mounted on the elephant backs for a jungle safari through the lush grassland to enjoy the wild animals. We also visit the elephant stables and take pleasure of elephant bathing. After lunch, we drive through the jungle to enjoy a canoe ride down the Rapti River. The Canoe ride allows us the close glimpse of Gharial and Mugger crocodiles along with fresh water Dolphin, otters and varieties of water birds.

Day 08: Drive from Chitwan to Pokhara (910m/2,986ft) – 200km/5 – 6 hours

Today we leave the southern Nepalese landscapes and drive north towards Pokhara. On the way, we can explore the beautiful countryside landscapes, rivers, forest and as we approach Pokahra, we will be greeted with magnificent views of the Himalayas including Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Macchapuchhre and the fire peaks of Annapurna and others. At Pokhara, we will visit Davis falls and Shiva cave. In the evening, we wander around the beautiful setting of Phewa Lake and enjoy a boat ride at a lake.

Day 09: Drive to Sarangkot hill to enjoy the sunrise and fly back to Kathmandu

Early in the morning, we leave for Sarangkot, a hill top village that overlooks the Pokhara and magnificent Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges. From here, we enjoy the amazing views of the sunrise over the snowy horizon. Then we drive back to Pokahra airport to catch a flight back to Kathmandu.

Day 10: Flight to Lhasa (3,650m/11,972ft) – 1 hour

The flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa offers the magnificent views of Himalayas including Everest (8,848m), Kanchenjunga (8,536m) and other Himalayan peaks and glaciers. Upon our arrival at Gonggar Airport in Lhasa, an airport representative will drive you to the designated hotel in Lhasa – 1 hour. Today we take a rest for proper acclimatization and minimize the altitude sickness.

Day 11: Sightseeing in Lhasa: Potala Palace, Norbulingka Palace and Tibet Traditional Hospital – 5 – 6 hours

Today we will proceed for sightseeing of Lhasa city. We will visit the legendary Potala and Norbulingka Palace. Potala Palace was built in 17th century and houses a private quarters of the Dalai Lama. There are numerous grand state rooms and chapels. The palace offers the amazing views of entire Lhasa city.

Likewise, Norbulingka Palace is the summer settlement of the Dalai Lama and considered as the largest man-made garden in Tibet. We also visit Tibet Traditional Hospital which is the center of the treatment, training, research and production of Tibetan medicine.

Day 12: Sightseeing in Lhasa: Sera Monastery, Drepung Monastery, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Bazaar – 5 – 6 hours

After breakfast, we will head to visit Drepung Monastery, Sera Monastery, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Bazaar. Drepung Monastery was built in the 14th century and believed to settle around 10,000 monks in the past but it dropped significantly to few hundreds these days. The culture, history and religious beliefs of the Tibetan people. Sera Monastery is highly preserved white-washed walls and golden roofs monastery. Jokhang is another religious site which reveals the deep-rooted mysteries of Tibetan Buddhism. We also take a Kora around Barkhorstreet where open we can explore open air stalls, shops and crowd pilgrims.

Day 13: Lhasa – Ganden Monastery – Drayerpa Cave – 5 – 6 hours

In the morning, we drive to Ganden Monastery which is located at the summit of Wangbur Mountain (3,800m). The two night stop at Lhasa allows us proper acclimatization. It is located about 57km east of Lhasa and is the oldest and one of the “great three” of the six Gelug Sect monasteries in Tibet. Ganden Monastery preserves fascinating murals and sculptures. After lunch, we drive to Drayerpa Cave located at stunning landscape. There are more than 30 caves for Lamas who wish to meditate in peace environment. In the evening, we drive back to Lhasa.

Day 14: Final Departure

Our multi-country tour in Asia comes to an end today. A representative from Dream Bhutan will drive to the Paro International Airport for your final departure.
